ABOUT BELINDA

photo.jpg

Brisbane based makeup artist Belinda Nicoll has spent the past fifteen years building a reputation as a versatile and highly creative artist within the Australian makeup industry. From natural beauty and editorial glam through to prosthetics and special effects makeup, Belinda’s work effortlessly moves across multiple areas of the industry.

With a deep love for creativity and storytelling, Belinda approaches every face as a unique canvas. Her work is driven not only by technical skill, but by a genuine passion for helping people feel confident, transformed, and seen.

Throughout her career, Belinda has collaborated with photographers, filmmakers, brands, musicians, brides, and fellow creatives to produce striking and memorable work across weddings, fashion, film, television, music videos, and education.

“I love challenging the idea of what beauty can look like. Whether it’s creating flawless bridal skin or covering someone in fake blood for a film set, makeup is art to me. I want people to feel inspired to explore creativity in all of its forms.”

Belinda’s film credits include productions such as Unbroken, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, Australia Day, Love and Monsters, and Anonymous Killers in Los Angeles. Her work has also featured in music videos for artists including The Kite String Tangle, Violent Soho, and ROI.

Story Time! . .

Belinda’s path into makeup artistry was anything but traditional.

In 2010, she was halfway through a Bachelor of Business degree on the Gold Coast and quickly realising that economics lectures and legal terminology were not exactly feeding her creative soul. During a visit home to the Sunshine Coast, her Mum casually suggested she pursue something more artistic.

“What about makeup?”

At the time, Belinda laughed off the idea entirely, convinced makeup could never become a real career.

Turns out, she was very wrong.

Within weeks, she had withdrawn from university, enrolled in a Diploma of Specialist Makeup Services in Brisbane, packed up her tiny dorm room, and moved cities to chase a completely different future.

After graduating, Belinda immersed herself in self teaching special effects makeup and prosthetics while simultaneously building experience across fashion shoots, editorial work, and the wedding industry.

In 2013, after sharing her work online, she was noticed by an Emmy Award winning makeup artist who invited her to join the makeup team on a major feature film being shot in Brisbane. At the time, details were heavily under wraps. When Belinda received the call sheet and saw the director listed as Angelina Jolie, she genuinely assumed it must have been someone with the same name.
It wasn’t.

That project became Unbroken, a feature film with a $65 million budget, and marked the beginning of Belinda’s work within the film industry both in Australia and overseas.

Since then, she has continued working across feature films, television, weddings, editorial shoots, music videos, and commercial projects while also stepping into education and mentoring.

For the past several years, Belinda has worked as an industry educator delivering workshops, short courses, and nationally recognised qualifications including the Diploma of Screen & Media specialising in makeup services. Teaching has become one of the most rewarding parts of her career, allowing her to help emerging artists build confidence, refine their skills, and carve out their own creative paths.
These days, Belinda spends much of her time balancing creative work with family life alongside her husband and four children. While she still loves the excitement of film and editorial projects, weddings have become a major focus and one of her favourite parts of the industry.

“I’ve had the huge wedding with the big bridal party, and I’ve also had the intimate backyard wedding during COVID. I understand how personal weddings are and how important it is for people to feel comfortable, beautiful, and genuinely like themselves.”

Whether she’s creating a cinematic creature effect, teaching a classroom full of emerging artists, or helping a bride feel her best on one of the biggest days of her life, Belinda brings the same creativity, warmth, and passion to every project.

Whatever it is you’re dreaming up, she’s probably already excited about it.
